Imatinib is an anticancer medication which is used for the treatment of several blood cancers. It is a target therapy medication and it is used in the treatment of leukemia and gastrointestinal tumors. The brand name of this medication is Imarech and the composition is Imatinib mesylate. It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor which blocks the working of BCR-ABL kinase. The exact function of ABL is unclear but it is overexpressed in cancer. Imatinib is a safe medicine however it can lower the white blood cell count which can reduce the immunity. Hence, Imatinib can decrease the resistance or immunity of the body and increase the risk of getting infections.
